Feenstra Votes to Add U.S. Citizenship Verification to U.S. Census and Ensure Only American Citizens are Counted for Congressional Reapportionment
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) voted for, and the U.S. House of Representatives passed, the Equal Representation Act. This legislation would add a citizenship question to the U.S. Census and prevent illegal immigrants from being counted during congressional reapportionment.
“Illegal immigrants should not be allowed to vote in American elections, and thus, they shouldn’t be counted when drawing congressional lines. For the integrity of our elections, everyone who fills out the U.S. Census must be required to answer whether or not they are an American citizen. These are not controversial amendments to current law,” said Rep. Feenstra. “Iowans are rightfully frustrated that President Biden refuses to secure our border and has allowed millions of illegal immigrants to unlawfully enter our country. By adding a citizenship question to the U.S. Census, we can ensure that only American citizens vote in American elections and only American citizens are counted when congressional districts are reapportioned.”
