Fourth District Focus: Checking out new housing developments in Fonda

April 25, 2025
Fourth District Focus

Since I was first elected to Congress, I pledged that I would travel to all 36 counties in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District at least twice each year. It’s a promise that I’ve faithfully kept and dubbed my “36 County Tour.” To date, I have made more than 345 stops, meeting with Iowans and visiting hospitals, farms, schools, businesses, manufacturers, universities, community organizations, and many other places. Having real, face-to-face conversations with Iowans and is important to me, and allows me to take their suggestions and ideas to Washington to transform them into meaningful policy solutions.

Since 2021, I have visited Pocahontas County nine times to see firsthand how community and business leaders are working to fuel growth in their communities. That year, Senator Ernst and I met with local business owners and members of NW Communications to discuss rural broadband access and visited the Jack Link factory in Laurens. In 2022, I visited Thrifty White Pharmacy in Pocahontas to discuss how we can lower drug prices for our seniors and families. In 2023, I toured Positech, in Laurens, to discuss the effects of inflation on their work in the international market and how, through their ESOP, they actively invest in their employees. I also visited Heart ‘n Home — a flower and decor shop — in Laurens.

This past year, I held a townhall with the people of Pocahontas to discuss border security, the need for a new, five-year Farm Bill, unleashing American energy, reducing our $35-trillion national debt, and the importance of extending the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. For my second stop of the year, I returned to Pocahontas to visit the Kaleidoscope Factory. We spoke about the importance of placemaking and keeping our families rooted in rural Iowa.

For my first stop in Pocahontas County on the 2025 edition of my 36 County Tour, I stopped in the lovely town of Fonda to check out new housing development projects and the city parks. I also grabbed a slice at the delicious Tavern 119. Serving on the House Ways and Means and Ag Committees, I am working to give our main street economies the resources they need to flourish. My colleagues and I are working on solutions to slash burdensome regulations and deliver tax relief to our small business. Main street businesses are the beating heart of our communities and it’s important that they continue to thrive. Working on policy solutions for Iowa, I always welcome the opinions of fellow Iowans. Please feel free to reach out to our office online at Feenstra.House.Gov or by phone at 202-225-4426 if we can be of assistance.

Being accessible to and transparent with Iowans will always be a top priority for me. Ensuring that the voice of my constituents is heard loud and clear in the halls of Congress is not only my mission, but also my humble responsibility. I look forward to visiting Pocahontas County again soon. We are government of the people, by the people, and for the people, so I encourage everyone to get involved and make their thoughts and opinions known.
