Fourth District Focus: Meeting with New York Life Insurance Agents in Sac City

On February 20th, my 36 County Tour brought me back to Sac County. Last year, I toured EVAPCO in Lake View to discuss ways we can strengthen our domestic manufacturing. I also made it over to the Loring Hospital in Sac City to talk about the needs of rural hospitals and community caregivers.
For this installment, I once again found myself in the Sac County chair—Sac City. I met with insurance agents from New York Life Insurance to discuss some of the viable approaches to delivering tax relief to Iowans, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and my work to assist small businesses in providing paid family and medical leave to employees.
The extension of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is a top priority for me as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. Extension means more investment opportunities, more potential for growth, less red tape, and more economic security for our families. Relief from tax-season stress is urgently needed for Iowans. That’s why I’m working to repeal the death tax, protect the doubled standard deduction for our families, maintain the increased child tax credit, and permanently reauthorize the 20% deduction for qualified business income for small businesses.
On a separate note, on February 5th, I introduced legislation to help small businesses offer paid family and medical leave (PFML) to their employees. The Paid Family and Medical Leave Tax Credit Extension and Enhancement Act specifically extends and reforms the 45S tax credit – which was a two-year tax credit authorized by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and later extended by Congress through 2025 – for employers that voluntarily offer up to 12 weeks of PFML. Serving on the House Ways and Means Committee, I believe that, by making this policy permanent, we can deliver certainty for our small businesses, keep our workers healthy and employed, and grow our economy and rural communities.
I’ve enjoyed all my trips to Sac County, and this trip was no different. I would like to thank Nathan Clark for coordinating with me and my team, and I would like to thank the other attendees who provided valuable feedback on the work to be done for Iowans.
