On July 4th, President Trump signed one of the most consequential pieces of legislation in American history into law. Among a wide range of benefits, H.R. 1—commonly known as the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill”—shielded Americans from the largest tax hike in history, expanded on the successful tax cuts of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), funded security at our southern border, and enhanced our national security.

Global trade is a crucial component of the American economy, ensuring that our businesses, manufacturers, and farmers can sell their high-quality goods across the world and make continued investments in our country. However, for decades, foreign nations have taken advantage of the American marketplace by illegally dumping products at our ports, a common practice by China, and imposing baseless and unscientific restrictions on U.S. exports.

On Wednesday, July 23rd, I spoke at a House Agriculture Committee hearing to discuss the harmful impacts of California’s Proposition 12, or Prop 12, on Iowa hog farmers and our rural communities. Enacted in 2018, this notorious state measure is incredibly detrimental to producers in Iowa and nationwide. Since I was elected to Congress, I have been fighting back against this dangerous regulation of our agricultural economy and way of life.

On Wednesday July 16th, I had the privilege of being at the White House when President Trump signed the HALT Fentanyl Act into law. Joined by families who have tragically lost loved ones and children to an overdose, the ceremony was a sobering reminder that too many Americans – especially young people – still lose their lives to the illicit drug trade orchestrated by criminals who have no regard for human life. We need real solutions to the opioid epidemic and rapid action to protect our children and neighbors.

On Tuesday July 8th, the Trump administration announced the rollout of the National Farm Security Action Plan. This is a comprehensive, seven-point initiative to defend American farmland from foreign adversaries, secure our agricultural supply chains, and ensure the long-term success of family farms and agriculture in Iowa and nationwide.

On Thursday July 3rd, I voted to pass President Trump’s “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” and send it to his desk for his signature – making this historic legislation the law of the land. This pro-family, pro-worker, pro-growth economic package is the culmination of President Trump’s campaign promises and conservative economic principles, which will dramatically grow our economy, cut deficits, and create jobs.

Traveling across Iowa on my 36 County Tour, I hear from so many small business owners and workers who want a government that works for them, not against them. For the last four years, the Biden administration was playing ball with foreign nations, outsourcing American manufacturing, and stifling domestic industry with red tape and burdensome regulations. From the factories in Rock Valley to the main street businesses of Marshalltown, our communities flourish when we support policies that empower small business owners, cut red tape, and fuel economic growth.

On Wednesday June 11th, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins traveled to Capitol Hill to testify before the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Agriculture Committee, respectively. As the only member of Congress serving on these two pivotal committees, I had the opportunity to speak directly with these incredibly talented cabinet secretaries who are delivering on President Trump’s economic and agricultural agenda.

In the 1800s, American settlements began appearing across Iowa’s sprawling prairies. Families, young and old, ventured out West, braving terrifying prairie fires, tornadoes, and uncertainty, in search of a better life. Early communities were often built around families coexisting and growing together. In 2025, not much has changed. Iowa’s landscape is dotted with small towns occupied by family names dating back generations. This is one of the things that I love most about Iowa.
