Feenstra Backs Legislation to Ban Creation of Central Bank Digital Currency

March 21, 2025

HULL, IOWA — Last week, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) cosponsored the Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act — led by U.S. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) — which would prevent the Federal Reserve from authorizing the creation of a central bank digital currency or digital dollar.

“As Americans, we value our freedom and liberty. Yet, the creation of a central bank digital currency would infringe upon our freedoms and threaten our privacy by giving the federal government unfettered access to our personal financial transactions. Countries like China use digital currency to monitor their citizens and track purchases, which is a scary situation that we can never allow to happen in the United States,” said Rep. Feenstra. “That’s why I support my friend Majority Whip Tom Emmer’s legislation to prevent the creation of a central bank digital currency in the United States. We must ensure that Americans retain full control over their bank accounts and financial information. The federal government has no business surveilling private data or overseeing personal financial decisions.”
