Feenstra Backs Legislation to Harden U.S. Defenses Against Threats Posed by the Chinese Communist Party

March 10, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) joined the U.S. House of Representatives in unanimously approving the Strategic Homeland Intelligence and Enforcement Legislation to Defend (SHIELD) Against the CCP Act

This legislation would require the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to form a working group tasked with duties related to countering terrorist, cybersecurity, border and port security, and transportation security threats posed to the United States by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

“China poses a significant and growing threat to our country. China has launched cyberattacks against our strategic infrastructure, invaded our sovereign airspace with spy balloons, violated our trade laws, illegally manufactured deadly fentanyl, and drastically increased its purchases of American farmland. We need to continue to harden our defenses against China and the dangerous antics of the Chinese Communist Party to secure our country from foreign threats,” said Rep. Feenstra. “That’s why I’m glad that the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously approved the SHIELD Against CCP Act. This legislation will ensure that the Department of Homeland Security actively works to hold China accountable for trade violations, secure our border against fentanyl trafficking, and counter cyberattacks orchestrated by the CCP. I’ll continue my work to ban China from buying our farmland and protect our farmers, businesses, and manufacturers from unfair Chinese trade policies.”
