Feenstra: Democrats’ Top Priority is to Take Election Law Away From States

WASHINGTON -- This evening, the House is set to vote on H.R. 1, the bill number that is reserved for Speaker Pelosi’s top priority. This bill attempts to nationalize elections, containing many provisions that would severely infringe on states’ rights and grossly abuse taxpayer dollars. Rep. Randy Feenstra (IA-04) blasted this blatant attempt by Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats to take constitutional power away from states and put it in the hands of Washington politicians.
Feenstra: H.R. 1, which is reserved for Speaker Pelosi’s top priority, is an effort by Democrats to take election law away from states and put it into the hands of the federal government
Below are Rep. Feenstra’s full remarks regarding the upcoming vote on H.R. 1:
“H.R. 1, which is reserved for Speaker Pelosi’s top priority, is an effort by Democrats to take election law away from states and put it into the hands of the federal government. Democrats want Washington to have more power so they can single-handedly decide elections and overrule the will of the people.
“That’s exactly what’s happening in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District. Iowa’s bipartisan canvassing panel has certified Congresswoman Miller-Meeks as the winner -- but now her opponent is counting on Washington politicians to decide the outcome of the election using a partisan process. If H.R. 1, the For the Politicians Act, is implemented, this would happen on an even larger scale.
“Democrats also want to fund their campaigns with taxpayer money -- your money. And they want to undermine election integrity by legalizing ballot harvesting, expanding mail-in voting without safeguards, and removing voter ID laws. In Iowa, we know how to make our elections safe and secure. I worked hard in the Iowa Senate to pass voter ID, which is critical to any fair election process.
“Democrats’ attempt to nationalize our elections will undermine the integrity of our electoral process and severely infringe on states’ rights, and that’s why I’ll be a strong ‘no’ vote on H.R. 1.”
