Feenstra Helps Lead Congressional Resolution Honoring Fallen Iowa National Guardsmen

December 18, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, along with the full Iowa congressional delegation, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) helped lead a congressional resolution honoring the lives and service of Sergeant Nate Howard from Marshalltown and Sergeant Edgar Torres-Tovar from Des Moines who were murdered by a terrorist in Palmyra, Syria.

The resolution also commends the three additional Iowa National Guardsmen who were injured, condemns the horrific terrorist act, and recognizes the families affected by this attack.

“Sergeant Nate Howard and Sergeant Edgar Torres-Tovar are real Iowa heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our grateful nation. They bravely defended their fellow servicemembers from a terrorist attack and we all mourn their loss,” said Rep. Feenstra. “I’m humbled to help lead a congressional resolution honoring these brave Iowans, recognizing their incredible courage, and condemning this vile terrorist attack on U.S. troops. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the injured soldiers and with the families and loved ones of Sergeant Howard and Sergeant Torres-Tovar. We will never forget their service and sacrifice on behalf of Iowa and the United States of America against evil and terror.”
