Feenstra Helps Lead Letter to Biden Administration Over Railway Service Suspensions at Southern Border

December 21, 2023

HULL, IOWA – This week, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) helped lead a letter – spearheaded by U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn (R-IA) – to President Joe Biden and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas urging the Biden administration to secure the border and resume railway service routes in Eagle Pass, Texas and El Paso, Texas.

“President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas have failed to uphold their constitutional duty to secure our border and protect our communities. Instead of finishing the border wall, destroying the drug cartels, and deporting illegal immigrants, the Biden administration opted to close major railway crossings that facilitate trade – including the sale of Iowa agricultural products – between the United States and Mexico. This is just another attack on American farmers who are already facing WOTUS regulations, inflation, and high energy costs,” said Rep. Feenstra. “Iowa farmers and producers rely on open markets and trade certainty to sell their high-quality goods worldwide and turn a profit. Alongside the entire Iowa congressional delegation, I call on President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas to do their job, secure the border, and reopen these crucial railway crossings for the good of Iowa agriculture.”
