Feenstra Helps Nor-Am Cold Storage Cut Through Red Tape to Ship Refrigerated Products to European Union from Cherokee Facility
HULL, IOWA – Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) announced that, after facing roadblocks, his office helped Nor-Am Cold Storage receive approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to ship refrigerated products – including Iowa-raised meat – to the European Union.
Nor-Am’s facility in Cherokee represents a significant investment in Northwest Iowa and sustains more than fifty good-paying jobs.
“I am so glad that my office could help Nor-Am Cold Storage – an incredible family-owned business – cut through government red tape to ensure that their customers could export refrigerated goods and products – including Iowa-made meat – to the European Union. This approval from USDA will protect more than fifty good-paying jobs in Cherokee and ensure that goods like beef, pork, and poultry can be exported,” said Rep. Feenstra. “I’ve toured Nor-Am’s facility in Le Mars and appreciate not only their investments in our rural communities, but also their work delivering Iowa beef, pork, turkey, chicken, and dairy across the globe. At the federal level, I had my FRIDGE Act included in the Farm Bill to support businesses like Nor-Am by building new refrigeration infrastructure at home and abroad so that our producers could access new export markets. My office stands ready to assist our families, businesses, and communities to navigate federal agencies and get real results.”
“I thank Congressman Feenstra and his team for helping us receive the approval we needed to ensure we could export product. This is an important market for our customers and ensures we can grow our operations and protect more than fifty good-paying jobs at our Cherokee facility,” said Scott Albers, President of Nor-Am Cold Storage. “I also appreciate Congressman Feenstra’s introduction of the FRIDGE Act to construct more cold-storage infrastructure and help Iowa producers ship their high-quality goods across the world. We are fortunate to have him representing Northwest Iowa farmers and businesses in Congress.”
“The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) appreciates Congressman Feenstra’s working with USDA to help GCCA member Nor-AM Cold Storage secure approval to export to Europe. This is a great example of how industry, Congress, and agencies can work together to facilitate trade. We also appreciate Rep. Feenstra’s continued leadership on the FRIDGE Act and look forward to working with him as the Farm Bill process moves forward,” saidSara Stickler, President and CEO of the Global Cold Chain Alliance.
