Feenstra, LaHood, Smith, Johnson Issue Statement on Meeting with Chief Agricultural Negotiator in Office of United States Trade Representative

October 27, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Reps. Randy Feenstra (R-IA), Darin LaHood (R-IL), Adrian Smith (R-NE), and Dusty Johnson (R-SD) issued the following statement after meeting with Doug McKalip, who serves as Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the office of the U.S. Trade Representative, on Wednesday October 25th.

“This week, we had a productive conversation with Ambassador McKalip, who serves as Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the office of the U.S. Trade Representative, about Brazil’s unfair tariffs and non-tariff barriers on American ethanol, as well as Mexico’s unfounded ban on American corn exports. As we made clear, our farmers and ethanol producers depend on open markets and fair-trade agreements to sell their goods across the globe and remain profitable. It is our hope that Trade Representative Katherine Tai and her team keep up the pressure on Brazil and Mexico and continue to advocate for American interests in every corner of the world.

Representing producers across the Midwest, we continue to urge the Biden administration to hold our trading partners accountable to our laws, eliminate trade barriers, and negotiate agreements that benefit American agriculture.”
