Feenstra Opposes Overreaching Legislation to Legalize Abortion on Demand Nationwide

July 15, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) voted against two pieces of legislation that would legalize abortion on demand nationwide and prevent states like Iowa from implementing laws that protect life.

“As a father of four and a Christian, I believe that every life has value and that every person – both born and unborn – deserves the fundamental right to life,” said Rep. Feenstra. “Sadly, the Democrats want to impose their extreme agenda on states like Iowa – where we proudly stand for life – and nullify pro-life legislation at the state level that protects innocent life. I am proud to be pro-life, and I will always defend the unborn.”

Feenstra has a proven pro-life record in Congress. Earlier this year, he introduced the Protecting Girls with Turner Syndrome Act, which bans doctors and other medical professionals from knowingly performing abortions on unborn children diagnosed with Turner syndrome (TS) – an extremely rare genetic condition that affects roughly 70,000 women and girls nationwide. A woman who undergoes an abortion related to a TS diagnosis cannot be prosecuted or held civilly liable.

Feenstra has also cosponsored countless pieces of legislation to protect innocent life including:

  • The Life at Conception Act, which affirms that life begins at the moment of conception,
  • The Unborn Protection Act, which prohibits the abortion of an unborn child solely on the basis of results from inaccurate prenatal lab tests,
  • The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which prohibits any person from performing an abortion on an unborn child who is 20 weeks or older,
  • The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, which makes the Hyde Amendment permanent and prevents taxpayer funding of abortions,
  • And the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which ensures that any child who survives an abortion receives the immediate, lifesaving medical care they deserve.
