Feenstra Praises Unanimous Passage of Legislation to Support Victims of Crime
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) issued the following statement praising unanimous House passage of the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act. This legislation would support victims of crime in Iowa and nationwide by redirecting money recovered from fraudsters to the Crime Victims Fund (CVF).
Feenstra is a cosponsor of this legislation.
“Victims of crime deserve reliable and immediate support after traumatic experiences. It’s why I’ve been a longtime advocate of a strong and financially stable Crime Victims Fund that can rapidly meet the needs of crime victims and their families and invest in organizations like Family Crisis Centers of Iowa,” said Rep. Feenstra. “I cosponsored and voted for the Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act to ensure that this program has ample resources to assist Iowans in need by recovering dollars stolen by criminals and fraudsters and using those funds for victim rehabilitation – rather than relying on taxpayer dollars. This legislation will help keep this fund solvent for the future while supporting crime victims and protecting Iowa taxpayers.”
The Crime Victims Fund Stabilization Act would specifically:
- Stabilize the CVF by redirecting unobligated funds collected under the False Claims Act through FY 2029.
- Ensure continued support for thousands of victim assistance programs nationwide, including child advocacy centers, domestic violence shelters, and rape crisis centers.
- Maintain the CVF’s original intent by using legal fines and penalties, not taxpayer dollars, to keep the program solvent.
