Feenstra Supports Legislation to Fully Compensate Spouses and Children of 9/11 Victims

September 30, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) voted for, and the U.S. House of Representatives passed, the Fairness for 9/11 Families Act, which appropriates funds through the United States Victims of State-Sponsored Terrorism Fund (USVSST) to ensure that immediate family members of 9/11 victims receive the compensation they deserve.

“September 11, 2001 is a day that will forever live in infamy. Thousands of Americans lost their lives at the hands of pure evil and countless more lost loved ones and family members,” said Rep. Feenstra. “While the pain of that awful day will never fully heal, it is our fundamental responsibility to ensure that the family members of 9/11 victims receive the compensation and support they deserve. I am proud to support the Fairness for 9/11 Families Act to honor our solemn promise to those who experienced unthinkable tragedy and support our fellow Americans.”

When the USVSST was first established by Congress in 2015, a technicality withheld compensation funds from thousands of family members of 9/11 victims who only received a mere 0.01% of the payments they should have earned. This legislation corrects this serious injustice.
