Feenstra Votes to End Democrat Shutdown and Reopen Government

November 12, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) voted to end the Democrat shutdown and reopen the federal government.

“It’s shameful that Democrats kept the government shut down all to give free healthcare to illegal immigrants and spend $1.5 trillion we don’t have. They forced our troops, border patrol agents, and Air Traffic Controllers to work without pay and hurt our farmers during harvest season to push their out-of-touch agenda,” said Rep. Feenstra. “I voted to end the Democrat shutdown and reopen the government to pay our troops, feed needy families, fully staff our FSA offices, and restore order to our nation’s airports. This political stunt by the Democrats caused unnecessary harm to Iowa families, farmers, seniors, and small businesses — and I’m glad it’s finally over.”

This legislation also includes funding for necessary and commonsense programs to support Iowa farmers and producers that Feenstra has long supported and led in Congress, such as:

  • Funding for critical operations at the Farm Service Agency (FSA) and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
  • Additional resources to track and monitor foreign-owned farmland as supported in Feenstra’s FARMLAND Act.
  • Funding for the Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network to support behavioral and brain health for farmers as supported in Feenstra’s Farmers First Act.
  • Funding for investments in agricultural research as supported through Feenstra’s Advancing Cutting Edge Agriculture Act.
