WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) helped introduce the America Works Act, which would require able-bodied Americans without dependents (ABAWDs) to work or pursue work-related training or education for at least 20 hours per week to receive SNAP benefits.
On Friday February 21st, while on my fifth biannual 36 County Tour, I stopped in Harrison County. On previous stops in Harrison County, I toured Agrivision in Missouri Valley, stopped by the Dunlap Livestock Auction, met with veterans in Logan, visited IGNITE Pathways in Woodbine, and met with the Harrison County Farm Bureau in Logan.
In 2014 and 2015, our producers were ravaged by a devastating outbreak of avian influenza. This outbreak, and corresponding depopulation efforts, killed roughly 43 million chickens and more than 7 million turkeys in flocks across 21 states while also impacting more than 960 dairy herds nationwide.
On February 20th, my 36 County Tour brought me back to Sac County. Last year, I toured EVAPCO in Lake View to discuss ways we can strengthen our domestic manufacturing. I also made it over to the Loring Hospital in Sac City to talk about the needs of rural hospitals and community caregivers.
Since I was first elected, I have traveled to every county in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District at least twice a year as part of my 36 County Tour. It’s a commitment that I made to my constituents that I would be transparent and accessible, offering meaningful solutions to the problems facing our rural communities, state, and nation.
On Thursday February 20th, I kicked off my fifth biannual 36 County Tour with a town hall in Cherokee hosted by Cherokee County Economic Development and the Iowa Farm Bureau. Nearly 25 Iowans joined us for a productive and engaging conversation about a wide range of issues from agriculture and tax reform to border security and domestic energy production.
