My Weekly Column
For Iowa families and small businesses, financial security means having the freedom to handle life's biggest moments without sacrificing economic stability. That's why I have focused on advancing practical, commonsense solutions that strengthen financial security, support our workforce, and help small businesses succeed. This Congress, Republicans have achieved historic victories for working families and small businesses.
Since our states’ founding in 1846, Iowa’s corn farmers have fed our families, fueled our economies, and strengthened our nation’s security. Representing the largest corn-producing district in the nation is more than just an honor—it’s a responsibility to ensure Iowa feeds and fuels the world. This week, I was deeply humbled to receive the National Corn Growers Association’s President’s Award, one of the organization’s highest honors, in recognition of our hard work on behalf of corn growers across this country.
Two years ago, when catastrophic flooding hit Northwest Iowa late in the evening, our communities were devastated by tragic losses. Families lost their homes, businesses were forced to close their doors, schools suffered extensive damage, and critical infrastructure was overwhelmed. In partnership with our local leaders, I have worked directly with federal agencies like the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to advocate on behalf of the communities like Rock Valley.
Since coming to Congress, I have consistently heard a key concern from farmers: the rising cost of fertilizer. When input costs climb, farm profitability shrinks, making it harder for producers to invest in their operations, pass their land to the next generation, and continue feeding and fueling the world. That’s why I have remained committed to lowering fertilizer costs.
Families should never have to worry about whether their communities are safe, they should be confident that violent criminals will be held accountable, and that our nation is secure. Keeping Americans safe is one of the most important roles of the federal government and Republicans are helping deliver on that priority through the Working Families Tax Cuts.
This landmark legislation delivers meaningful investments to strengthen public safety, secure our border, support law enforcement, and modernize critical infrastructure that Americans rely on every day.
May is Renewable Fuels Month – a time where we can recognize the Iowa farmers, producers, and innovators who power America with homegrown energy while strengthening our economy and national security.
Memorial Day is one of the most solemn days on our calendar. Across Iowa, families travel to cemeteries and veterans’ memorials to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. In towns across America, flags are placed beside headstones, prayers are offered, and we pause to remember those we lost in defense of our nation.
After more than a decade of debate, delay, and Washington gridlock, the House has taken a historic step forward by passing nationwide year-round E15. This is a long-overdue victory for our farmers, energy producers, and families across the country. Drivers nationwide will now see the positive impact at the pump.
When I came to Congress, I was committed to giving farmers, producers, and working families a seat at the table and delivering results for those who make Iowa’s 4th district a strong and productive community. Serving one of the largest agricultural districts in the nation, I kept a clear goal: pass a strong, comprehensive Farm Bill that gives our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities the certainty and tools they need to be successful.
The shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has not just been another political dispute happening in Washington—it is a direct threat to the safety and security of the American people at a time when our country is facing heightened threats to our national security.
