In 1961, the United States Congress passed the first National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Then, and in every conflict since, our brave men and women at home and overseas relied on Congress to authorize new programs, procure advanced weapons, and make quality-of-life improvements for servicemembers.

In Iowa, agriculture is more than an industry, it’s the backbone of our economy and a pillar of our identity.

Our corn and soybean growers, cattle producers, hog farmers and rural communities punch above their weight, and with the passage of the Working Families Tax Cuts, Congress punched back for them.

This bill is pro-work, pro-farmer and pro-America.

On Independence Day, as Americans were celebrating our nation’s 249th birthday with fireworks, barbecues, and road trips, President Donald Trump liberated hardworking taxpayers from government bloat and high taxes by signing into law The One, Big, Beautiful Bill. This historic law prevented what would have been the largest tax hike in American history and instead delivered the largest tax cut ever for families, farmers, workers, seniors, and small businesses.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017 delivered historic tax relief for families, farmers, workers, and businesses. Championed by President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress, the TCJA slashed taxes for the working class, boosted our GDP, and encouraged business investment. Now, nearly a decade later, President Trump and Republicans have expanded upon that success and delivered the largest tax cut for Americans in history.

President Trump’s “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” is a historic investment in the American people. After an onslaught of failed economic policies from the Biden administration, taxpayers had enough. As I travel across Iowa’s 4th Congressional District, I heard from farmers, families, business owners, and community leaders about how tight budgets were becoming.

In Iowa, nearly one in five jobs are connected to agriculture, a far cry from many other states. That’s no surprise for those of us who have grown up on family farms and have called rural Iowa home for our entire lives.

From corn, soybeans and biofuels to dairy, cattle and hogs, Iowa farmers grow the food and fuel that nourishes and powers our country and the world.

For four years, under the radical policies of the Joe Biden administration, our border was opened to the entire world and illegal immigration was not only exacerbated but encouraged.

Drug cartels sneaked through the cracks, criminals entered with no questions asked, individuals with known connections to terrorism broke our laws, and millions of illegal immigrants crossed our border without even a slap on the wrist.

For four years under the Biden administration, rural communities were left behind, if not completely forgotten. Farmers faced a nearly $50-billion agricultural trade deficit, record high inflation squeezed budgets, and net farm income fell by roughly $41 billion — the largest two-year decline in U.S. history.
