Agriculture

Randy grew up working on farms, frequently walking beans and doing chores. His in-laws run a livestock and crop farm in Sioux County, where he helps out along with his wife and four kids – spending many weekends bailing hay, loading hogs, vaccinating cattle, and maintaining seven finishing sites.
He knows first-hand that corn and soybean growers -- along with our livestock, egg, dairy, poultry, ethanol, and biodiesel producers -- form the backbone of the 4th District’s economy. As the second largest ag producing district in the country, Randy serves as a voice for Iowa's hardworking farmers, giving them a seat at the table on the House Agriculture Committee.

Before I voted for the Farm Bill – which passed out of the House Agriculture Committee in May – I held many town halls with farmers and producers as part of my 36 County Tour and Feenstra Agriculture Tour to ensure that the priorities of our agricultural community were included in this vital legislation. In my conversations with producers, I repeatedly heard about the need for strong crop insurance protections, more opportunities to access new export markets, and foreign animal disease prevention and response.

Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) joined Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and the entire Iowa congressional delegation in urging the U.S. Department of Agriculture to use its existing statutory authority to provide much-needed relief to Iowa farmers and producers impacted by recent storms, including tornadoes and flooding.

Farmers in Iowa, especially in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District which I represent in Congress, continue to be devastated by Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). Out of the almost 100 million birds that have been affected by HPAI across 48 states since this outbreak began in 2022, nearly 25% have been in my home state – devastating producers, destroying flocks, and impacting entire communities.

In the early morning hours of Friday May 24th after nearly 14 hours of deliberation, I voted — alongside my Republican colleagues on the House Agriculture Committee — to advance the 2024 Farm Bill out of committee and send it to the House Floor for a vote by the full Congress. This legislation is not only critical for our farmers and our economy, but it’s also vital to our global leadership and our competition against China.

Randy Feenstra (R-Hull) and Iowa Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Joni Ernst (R-IA) led a letter to President Biden and EPA Administrator Michael Regan urging the Biden administration to amend its decision to set Renewable Volume Obligation (RVO) levels well below industry production capacity and instead increase RVO levels for homegrown Iowa biofuels.
